Factory-level diagnostic platform · Skyactiv-G & Skyactiv-D specialists · CX-90 PHEV equipped · ASE Master Certified · Since 1957[ASE Master] · [AAA Approved] · [NAPA AutoCare] · [Habla Español]
Mazda has quietly become one of the best-engineered mainstream brands on the road — and one of the more complex to service correctly. The Skyactiv engine family runs the highest compression ratios of any production gasoline engine in its class. The CX-90 PHEV introduced an entirely new I6 plug-in hybrid powertrain in 2024 that most independent shops in Miami aren't equipped to touch. The i-Activ AWD system has fluid service intervals the average shop doesn't know about. Mazda's not a brand you take to a generalist and assume it'll be diagnosed correctly the first time.
Green's Garage runs Mazda's factory diagnostic platform, trains continuously on Skyactiv-specific failure modes, and is one of the few independent shops in Miami equipped for the CX-90 PHEV high-voltage system. Whether you drive a CX-5 daily-driver, a CX-9 family hauler, a brand-new CX-90, a Mazda3 hatch, or a Miata that you weekend in — we read it with the same tooling the dealer uses, but without the dealer's wait time or the dealer's markup. Same-week appointments. 2-year / 24,000-mile warranty. (305) 444-8881.
You're in the right place if you're dealing with:
- 2.5L Turbo oil dilution on your CX-5 Signature, CX-9, CX-50, or CX-90 — rising oil level on the dipstick, fuel smell, or service reminders coming early
- Cylinder deactivation issues on the 2.5L Skyactiv-G — rough idle, slight vibration at cruise, or a misfire that only shows up under partial load
- Carbon buildup on intake valves — direct-injection Skyactiv engines accumulate carbon and benefit from periodic intake cleaning that most shops skip
- CX-90 or CX-70 PHEV charging issues, range loss, or hybrid system warning lights — almost no independent in Miami is set up for this system yet
- i-Stop start/stop system that's not restarting cleanly, or a battery the dealer says needs the special AGM replacement
- AWD service overdue — the i-Activ AWD Power Transfer Unit (PTU) fluid is a service most shops miss; ignored long enough, it kills the unit
- Skyactiv-Drive transmission shudder, harsh shifts, or service messages — the ATF service interval is shorter than many owners realize
- A dealer estimate for major Mazda work — engine, transmission, or PHEV battery — that you want a second opinion on before authorizing
If any of this sounds like your car, call (305) 444-8881 or schedule a diagnostic online.

What Makes Mazda Service Different — The Skyactiv & PHEV Reality
Skyactiv-G engines aren't a problem when they're maintained correctly. They're a problem when they're not.
Mazda's Skyactiv-G engine family — the 2.0L and 2.5L gasoline engines that power most current Mazdas — runs compression ratios as high as 14:1. That's diesel-territory compression on a gasoline engine. It's what makes Mazda's fuel economy and torque numbers competitive with brands using turbochargers and 8-speed transmissions. It's also why these engines are unforgiving when oil change intervals slip or when the wrong-spec oil goes in.
The 2.5L Turbo found in CX-5 Signature, CX-9, CX-50, and CX-90 has its own well-documented quirk: oil dilution. Under certain driving patterns — short cold-start trips, lots of stop-and-go — unburned fuel makes its way past the rings and ends up in the oil. Mazda has issued software updates for affected vehicles. We run those updates. We also check oil level and fuel content on every Mazda service, because oil dilution doesn't show up on the dashboard until it's already a problem.
The 2.5L NA engine introduced cylinder deactivation in 2018. It's a fuel-economy feature that shuts down two of the four cylinders at light load. It works well — until a lifter wears unevenly and you get a misfire that won't trigger a code at idle, only under specific load conditions. This is the kind of fault a generic OBD-II scanner won't help you find. Mazda's factory platform shows the cylinder deactivation state live; we can see exactly when and how the system is engaging, and pinpoint the failure.
CX-90 PHEV and CX-70 PHEV are the new frontier — and almost no Miami independent is set up for them.
The CX-90 PHEV combines a 2.5L inline-4 with a 100kW electric motor and a 17.8 kWh battery pack — Mazda's first serious plug-in hybrid for the U.S. market. The system is brand new (2024 model year), the diagnostic procedures are different from any other Mazda, and the high-voltage safety protocols require certified equipment. Miami has fewer than a handful of independent shops with the tooling and training to service this powertrain. We're one of them.
For PHEV owners, this matters because the dealer schedule on a new model is full, and the warranty work backlog means a 2–4 week wait isn't unusual. We can get you in this week.

Mazda-Specific FAQ
Will Green's Garage void my Mazda factory warranty? No. Under the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, independent shops can service your Mazda — including warranty-interval services — without voiding the factory warranty, as long as we use equivalent parts and procedures. We document everything for your records. The CX-90 PHEV battery is covered by Mazda's 8-year / 100,000-mile high-voltage warranty regardless of who does your routine service.
Are you equipped for the CX-90 PHEV or CX-70 PHEV? Yes. We have the high-voltage safety equipment, the diagnostic platform for the PHEV system, and the training to service the inverter, traction motor, battery, and regenerative brake systems. We're one of the few independent shops in Miami currently set up for this powertrain.
My CX-5 Turbo has been to two shops and they can't find the problem. Will you? Probably. We run Mazda's factory diagnostic platform, not a generic scanner, and the diagnostic-first methodology means we don't replace parts to see if it fixes the problem. If it's a Skyactiv-specific issue — oil dilution, cylinder deactivation lifter wear, intake carbon buildup, i-Activ AWD — we've likely seen it before. If it's something genuinely unusual, the factory platform gives us more data to work from than the previous shops had.
Do you service older Mazdas — Miata NA, RX-8, classic Mazda3? Yes. The Miata in particular is one of our favorite cars to work on — every generation from NA to current ND. RX-8 rotary work is more limited (rotary expertise in Miami is rare and we partner with a rotary specialist for engine rebuilds, but routine service, fuel, ignition, and accessory work we handle in-house). For older Mazdas where the factory diagnostic platform doesn't cover the model year, we use the appropriate generation of tooling.
Can I get an oil change and tire rotation on my CX-5 here even if there's nothing wrong with it? Absolutely. We do all factory-interval scheduled maintenance — oil change with the correct Skyactiv-spec oil and filter, tire rotation, multi-point inspection, fluid level checks, and documented service records that preserve your warranty. Many Mazda owners come to us specifically for routine maintenance because the dealer service department is booked weeks out.
