Why Land Rover Air Suspension Gets Misdiagnosed

Land Rover's Electronic Air Suspension (EAS) controls ride height, load leveling, Terrain Response and on-road comfort all at once. When one part fails, it usually makes another part look guilty:

  • A compressor that seems dead is often worn out from fighting a leaking air spring.
  • A sagging corner isn't always the air spring. It can be a valve block solenoid, a corroded height sensor, or a wiring fault.
  • A "Suspension Fault" message can come from a weak battery or low system voltage, not the suspension at all.

Replacing the most common part first is how owners end up paying for a compressor and then an air spring. We find the actual cause before recommending any repair. Learn how we diagnose Land Rovers →

What Our Air Suspension Diagnosis Includes

  1. Full module scan: every stored and active fault code in the suspension module and the modules it talks to over the vehicle network.
  2. Live height data from all four corners, compared against what the car is actually doing.
  3. Compressor output and duty-cycle test, plus dryer (desiccant) condition, relay and fuse circuits.
  4. Leak-down test of each air spring, the reservoir, the valve block and the air lines.
  5. Valve block solenoid circuit testing, corner by corner.
  6. Written findings and a quote covering what failed, how we proved it, and your repair options with costs.

Land Rover Air Suspension Repairs We Perform

Air Spring Replacement

Replacement of leaking, cracked or collapsed air springs (air bags) on any corner, using genuine Land Rover or premium OEM-equivalent springs, with uprated options for longer life in Miami heat. Every replacement includes a full system leak test and height calibration.

Air Suspension Compressor Repair & Replacement

We test output pressure and duty cycle, check the dryer and the relay and fuse circuits, and replace the compressor only when it has actually failed. If a leak killed the old compressor, we fix the leak too, or the new one won't last.

Valve Block Repair & Replacement

The valve block routes air to each corner. Stuck solenoids, internal leaks and harness damage are common causes of one corner sagging. We test each solenoid circuit and repair or replace the block as needed.

Height Sensor Replacement & Calibration

Four height sensors, one per corner, tell the system where the vehicle is sitting. Corroded or failed sensors cause wrong ride height, compressor overrun and warning lights. We replace faulty sensors and calibrate all four corners with factory-level software.

Air Line & Fitting Repair

Cracked nylon lines and leaking push-fit connectors are a common cause of slow overnight sagging. We find the leak, repair the line, and replace damaged fittings.

Suspension Control Module Diagnosis

Module faults, software issues and network communication errors can take down the whole system. We diagnose at module level and perform software updates or replacement where needed. See also Land Rover electrical repair →

Coilover Conversion

For owners who'd rather eliminate air suspension entirely, we offer quality coilover conversions. We'll be honest about the trade-offs: ride quality, Terrain Response integration and resale value. That way you can decide based on how you actually use the vehicle.

Written Quote Before Any Work

Every job starts with diagnosis. You get written findings showing what failed and how we proved it, plus a firm quote for the repair, before any work starts. The final cost depends on your model, which components have failed, and whether you choose genuine, OEM-equivalent or uprated parts.

Warning Signs of Air Suspension Failure

Sitting low on one or more corners

One corner lower than the others at rest usually means a leaking air spring, a stuck valve block solenoid, or a height sensor reading wrong. It typically gets worse overnight as air bleeds out.

"Suspension Fault" warning on the dash

The system has logged a fault code and may lock itself at a fixed ride height. A full module scan identifies the exact fault quickly, so don't keep driving on it.

Compressor running constantly, or not at all

If you hear the compressor running for long stretches, it's fighting a leak. If the system won't inflate at all, the compressor or its circuit is failing. Continued overrun burns the compressor out.

Rough, bouncy or harsh ride

A degraded air spring can't cushion properly, and the ride turns harsh on Miami's roads. It's often mistaken for a tire or wheel problem first.

Won't rise to normal or off-road height

If it's stuck at access height, the system lacks the pressure to lift. The cause is usually a leak, a weak compressor, or a valve block fault.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my Range Rover sitting low or sagging?

Almost always it's lost air pressure: a leaking air spring, a faulty valve block solenoid, or a leaking air line fitting. Less often, a failed height sensor tells the system to drop a corner. A diagnostic scan and leak-down test will find it. Don't wait, because constant compressor cycling will eventually burn out the pump. More: Range Rover sitting low: diagnosis guide →

How much does Land Rover air suspension repair cost?

It depends on your model and which components have failed. A single air spring, a compressor, a valve block and a full four-corner replacement are very different jobs. We diagnose first and give you a written quote before any work starts, so you know exactly what you're paying for and why.

How long does the repair take?

Most single air spring and compressor jobs are done same-day. Multi-corner or valve block work typically takes 1–2 days. You'll get a realistic estimate after diagnosis and updates throughout the job.

Can I drive my Range Rover with an air suspension fault?

If it's at normal height with only a warning light, short trips may be OK, but bring it in soon. If it's sitting noticeably low, don't drive it. The air spring can bottom out and cause more damage, and steering geometry can be affected. Call us and we'll advise based on your symptoms.

Should I repair the air suspension or convert to coilovers?

A proper repair restores the ride quality, Terrain Response capability and self-leveling that make a Range Rover what it is. A coilover conversion removes future air suspension costs but gives up ride quality, Terrain Response integration and resale value. We do both and will give you an honest recommendation for your vehicle and how you use it.

Why does Land Rover air suspension fail so often in Miami?

Air spring rubber and compressor dryers are wear items, and Miami's heat and humidity age them faster than cooler climates do. Catching leaks early and using quality replacement parts makes a big difference in how long the repair lasts. More: Why air suspension fails faster in Miami →

Do you service Discovery and Defender air suspension?

Yes: Discovery 3 (LR3), Discovery 4 (LR4), Discovery 5, and the 2020+ Defender with optional air suspension. Each has a slightly different system, and we service all of them.

It sat overnight and now it's very low. What happened?

Overnight sagging is the classic sign of a slow leak, usually a cracked air spring or a leaking push-fit connector. The compressor held the height while the vehicle was running but can't once it's off. It's a common and very fixable fault. A leak-down test pinpoints the source.

Do you work on diesel Land Rovers?

No. We service gasoline and hybrid Land Rover and Range Rover models only.
